A guy flagged me down through the contact form from a parking lot near RB Town Center.
His 2001 Town Car had been sitting for a few months after his only key got damaged -- the plastic head had cracked and someone had taped it back together badly. The key still turned. The car just wouldn't stay running. He'd been cranking it, getting it to catch for a second, then watching it die. He was convinced it was a fuel problem.
It wasn't.
The cracked housing had separated enough that the transponder chip inside wasn't reading cleanly at the ignition cylinder. The car's immobilizer saw the key physically turning but couldn't confirm the chip, so it cut the engine almost immediately after start. Classic pattern on these.
I cut a new key blade to his vehicle on site, transferred the process to a proper blank with a working chip, and got everything enrolled through the immobilizer. First crank after that, the car started and held idle like it hadn't been touched in four months -- which, effectively, it hadn't.
He said the dealer told him over the phone it would take a week minimum because they'd have to order parts. That wasn't even the part he needed. I was done in under an hour in the parking lot.
