2011 Nissan Rogue Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in the Mission San Luis Rey area of Oceanside, I got a call from a home inspector who was parked at an apartment complex carport, fob in hand, going nowhere.
He ran inspections solo, booked back to back. His Rogue was his office and his transportation. When the Intelligent Key stopped being detected that morning, he called the dealer first. They could get him in Wednesday. It was Monday. Two lost workdays for someone self-employed isn't an inconvenience, it's a real financial hit.
I was there that afternoon. He was still standing in the carport when I pulled up.
Before I touched anything, I asked him the basics: when did it start, was there any warning before it went dead, had he tried a fresh battery. He hadn't, and honestly at that point it didn't matter because he needed a confirmed working key regardless. His original fob had been acting up for a few weeks, range getting shorter, the touch unlock on the driver door going intermittent. Classic signs the battery was on its way out, but also the kind of thing that can mean the fob itself is going.
I went through the proper sequence: connected my programmer to the OBD port, ran the Nissan Intelligent Key enrollment procedure, registered the new fob, and confirmed the original fob was still active in the system so he'd have a spare. Then I went through every function: door lock, unlock, the driver handle touch sensor, and the push-button start. Everything confirmed.
He had a working key, and a registered backup, before dinner. He didn't reschedule a single appointment. The dealer comparison came up on its own when he asked what they would have charged. I told him to call and find out. He did. He just laughed and said "yeah, way less."
