I got a call from a guy parked in the Poway Business Park, somewhere in that stretch of office and warehouse buildings off Danielson Street. He worked in one of the industrial units there and had walked out on his lunch break to find the Rogue sitting there ignoring him. Door handle touch did nothing. Fob buttons did nothing. He assumed the worst.
When I pulled up, first thing I did was check the emergency insert key in the fob. He didn't know it was there. A lot of owners don't. I showed him how to release it, used it to confirm we could at least get into the car mechanically, and then opened the fob to look at the battery.
The CR2032 was original. Thirteen years in a fob that lives in a pocket, gets warm, gets cold, gets sat on. The battery was reading low enough that the fob could barely wake the Intelligent Key receiver inside the car. Not dead, just starved.
Swapped the battery, reseated the contact, and walked him through the touch unlock on both front handles to confirm the sensors were reading the fob signal. Car started on the first press. He stood there for a second like he expected something else to go wrong.
He mentioned the dealer was a drive away and he'd already been quoted a block of time just for diagnosis. He paid for a battery swap and a few minutes of honest troubleshooting instead.
That's most of what this job is: showing up, doing the obvious thing right, and not charging for a repair that wasn't needed.
