I got a call from a performance shop in Spring Valley, over in the Casa de Oro area. A customer had brought in a 2004 Porsche 911 after a previous locksmith attempted an all-keys-lost job and something went sideways. The immobilizer module wasn't reading any key. The car sat in the bay for two days. The shop was already looking at tow-to-dealer as the next move.
The problem was the recovery attempt had stalled mid-process. When you interrupt that kind of operation on a module like this without completing the read or restoring a backup, the module can lock itself and reject everything after that. No fob, no start.
I brought my bench recovery setup. I pulled the immobilizer module and worked directly at the chip level, reading the EEPROM data with test-point access rather than trying to go through a now-unresponsive software path. Once I had the data out, I generated a fresh key file, programmed a new flip key to match, reinstalled the module, and cleared the stored faults. The key turned. The car started.
I walked the shop tech through what had failed at each step so they'd have the picture if it ever came up again. That took an extra fifteen minutes but felt worth it.
Total time was close to two and a half hours, which is longer than a normal 911 key job. The shop owner said the dealer quote alone was going to run well past what I charged, and that was before any diagnostic time on their end.
