A photographer on assignment at a scenic overlook outside Carlsbad had his emergency blade snap inside the door lock of his 2013 Porsche 911. He'd tried to use the blade after the smart fob died and the HU66 tip broke clean off in a cylinder that hadn't been turned in years. He called another locksmith first, and that locksmith told him the lock would need to be drilled. New cylinder, new key, over $600. He called me for a second opinion.
I used my VVDI2 to read the smart key's chip data since the fob electronics were still intact despite the broken blade. Then I extracted the broken fragment from the door lock using my HU66 Lishi. Once extracted, I decoded the lock and cut a fresh emergency blade. His fob, FCC ID KR55WK50138, was a 5-button remote-head key that I rebuilt with a new blade and reprogrammed.
No drilling, no cylinder replacement. His total was $416. The other locksmith wanted $752 or more. Destructive entry on a Porsche should always be the absolute last resort.
