2022 Subaru Crosstrek Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy renting a place in Cardiff-by-the-Sea was the only one with a key to his 2022 Crosstrek, and it stopped responding.
He'd been surfing and the fob went into his bag near wet gear. When he came back to the car, nothing. No door unlock, no response from the push-button start, and a warning light on the dash. He used the emergency metal blade hidden in the fob to get into the car, but the engine wouldn't start because the smart key system didn't see a registered fob in the cabin. He called the Subaru dealer. They told him to tow it in and they'd look at it the following afternoon.
He called me instead.
I met him in the driveway about an hour later. The fob itself wasn't dead. When I opened it up, the CR2032 had dropped enough voltage from sitting in a damp bag that the fob's signal was too weak to register. Fresh battery, cleaned the contacts, reseated everything. The system woke right back up. Pushed the start button, engine fired.
He didn't need a new key at all. But I still walked every function with him before I left. Lock, unlock, start, the whole sequence, so he knew it was solid and not about to do it again in the morning.
The dealer would have had him towed, ticketed for the appointment, and sent a bill for something he didn't need. He was back on the beach inside two hours.
