2025 Subaru Crosstrek Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call out to Coronado Village on a Tuesday afternoon. The owner had a 2025 Subaru Crosstrek parked in front of his place and couldn't get the thing to respond.
The fob wasn't locking or unlocking the doors, the start button was giving him a key-not-detected warning on the dash, and he'd already swapped the battery once because someone on a forum told him that was always the first step.
The battery was fine. Seated correctly, right spec, contacts were clean. So I asked him to walk me through exactly what happened before it quit. He'd set the fob down on a wireless charging pad while he ran an errand. He didn't think anything of it.
That told me what I needed to know. Strong wireless chargers can temporarily disrupt the fob's internal electronics. It's not a guaranteed kill, but it happens. I did a quick communication check on the fob, confirmed it had lost pairing with the vehicle, and got to work re-registering it using my diagnostic equipment right there at the curb.
The whole job took less than an hour. He asked about the dealer afterward, almost as an afterthought. I told him to call if he was curious about the difference. He just nodded and went back inside.
