She was parked in Downtown National City, outside a yoga studio, and she had been fighting the ignition on her 2002 Celica for a few weeks. Some mornings it turned clean. I replaced the worn wafers, cut a fresh key matched to the repaired cylinder, and as a precaution I backed up the immobilizer data before touching anything mechanical. On a car this age, that is just good practice.
Then I re-synced her remote fob. The car started, the remote locked and unlocked clean, and the ignition turned like it had something to prove.
She said the dealer's quote was for parts she clearly did not need. I replaced what was actually worn. The key slides in smooth now and she is not sitting in any parking lot wiggling anything.
