The parking lot at RB Town Center was quiet by the time I pulled up. A Golf owner had been standing near the entrance for about twenty minutes, key in hand, car not responding to the remote.
The blade was fine, the car started. But the remote, lock, unlock, none of it was registering. He had already tried the obvious: new CR2032, same problem. He figured the fob was dead and had mentally prepared for a dealer trip.
I popped the shell open on my work surface. The board looked clean, contacts were intact. I checked the battery seating and found the negative contact had a slight outward bow, just enough to make intermittent connection feel like no connection. Straightened it, reseated the battery, and did a quick synchronization to bring the remote back into range of the receiver.
Then I walked every button. Lock, unlock, the remaining two. Tested from across the lot. Everything came back.
He had been ready to order a whole new fob and wait for programming. Took about fifteen minutes on site, and the car was back to full function in the RB Town Center lot. The dealer option crossed his mind again as he drove off, but only briefly.
