The 2006 Golf in this configuration uses a remote flip key, so this wasn't a push-button situation - there's an ignition cylinder to deal with, and the immobilizer needs a properly registered transponder before it'll let the engine run. All-keys-lost on this generation means the existing key data gets cleared out and fresh credentials get written in. I pulled the immobilizer data, ran the all-keys-lost procedure with my equipment, cut the new blade to the vehicle, and tested it in the ignition and on the doors.
She watched the whole thing from the sidewalk. The car started on the first turn. She asked how the dealer could possibly justify making her wait days and tow it when the whole job took under an hour on site. I didn't have a great answer for that.
She saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, and she didn't have to arrange a tow or leave the car anywhere.
