1999 Chevrolet Malibu Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

GM's immobilizer system is the reason your key costs more than a house key. Every Chevrolet since the early 2000s has a transponder chip embedded in the key or fob. When you turn the ignition or press the start button, the car sends a radio signal to that chip. If the chip responds with the right security code, the engine starts. If not, you get a "service theft deterrent" message and nothing happens. That's why you can't just copy a Chevy key at the hardware store.

A customer at the Walmart near Borderline Bar & Grill memorial thought only the dealer could program that chip. She had a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu and needed a spare. The dealer quoted 200 and she assumed that was her only choice because of the "computer" involved. Her coworker had used me before and passed along my number.
