A long time if you treat it right. The transponder chip inside is solid-state, no moving parts, no battery. The ignition cylinder is what wears, not the key's electronics. Losing that last key means the immobilizer memory has to be cleared and rebuilt from scratch, which takes longer and costs more. One spare in the glovebox is cheap insurance.
