2022 Chevrolet Malibu
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Ask for a license number before anyone rolls. Ask for a written estimate tied to your specific vehicle, not a vague phone quote. Scam operations quote a low number, show up, then stack on a programming fee, a "chip fee," and a trip charge that triples the bill by the time they're done. We give you a firm price on the phone for the 2022 Malibu. That number does not change when we pull up.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. We program the replacement fob to the vehicle through the diagnostic port, verify the push-button start is reading it correctly, and run every button on the fob before we leave. The 2022 Malibu's security system has to recognize the new fob as an authorized key, and we confirm that handshake is solid on site. You're not getting a half-working fob where the buttons respond every few presses. We test it the same way we'd want our own car tested.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can you just program it to my 2022 Malibu?

Depends on what you bought. If the fob matches the factory FCC ID for this vehicle, there's a reasonable chance it can be paired. If it's a generic aftermarket unit or doesn't match the correct identifier for the 2022 Malibu, it may not pair cleanly or at all. Either way, programming it still requires diagnostic equipment connected to the vehicle. There is no self-programming sequence on this system.

Q: My 2022 Malibu starts fine but the fob range has gotten really short. Is the fob dying?

Usually it's the CR2032. Even a cell that tests okay on a basic battery tester can drop under load when the fob is actually transmitting. Swap it with a name-brand cell, reseat it carefully so both contacts are flush, and test range again. If the range comes back, you're done.

2022 Chevrolet Malibu Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call just before six in the morning from a guy parked near the warehouses off the edge of Downtown Ojai. His shift started at six.

His 2022 Chevrolet Malibu was sitting there not recognizing the fob, and he had already tried the door handle three times. The dash was giving him a key-not-detected warning and the push-button start wouldn't wake up. You could hear how close he was to just calling his foreman and eating the tardy.

I was already stocked and on the road. Made it to him in under twenty minutes.

He had swapped the CR2032 himself the week before, which was the right instinct. But when I opened the fob, the battery was sitting slightly off-center and one contact had a small bend from where he'd pried it open. The cell wasn't making clean contact under load. I reseated it, straightened the contact, and the fob came back.

Then I did the part most people skip: walked every function on the fob against the vehicle before I called it done. Lock, unlock, each of the other buttons, and confirmed the push-button start was reading the fob through the door handle approach. The car behaved like it should have been behaving all week.

He made it in. Texted me mid-morning. The fix was way less than a dealer visit would have run, and he didn't lose a day's pay waiting in a service queue.

Chevrolet Malibu Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Chevrolet vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, the state agency that regulates locksmiths. We carry full liability insurance. On a 2022 Malibu, programming a proximity fob to the vehicle requires professional diagnostic equipment and proper credentialing to access the security data that GM requires for key registration. You want someone who has cleared those background checks and holds the right credentials before they're plugging into your car. We have both.
