An Amazon delivery driver at a lot in Thousand Oaks had exactly that story. His only key to his 2010 Dodge Dakota cracked at the Fobik housing and the blade snapped when he tried to force it into the ignition. I used my VVDI2 to read the transponder data from the broken Fobik since the chip was still intact inside the cracked housing. That saved time because I didn't need a full all-keys-lost procedure. I extracted the blade fragment from the ignition, decoded the lock, and cut two fresh keys. His Fobik, FCC ID KOBDT04A, was a 4-button remote that I rebuilt into new shells with the cloned chip. I showed him the chip from the cracked fob so he could see it was still good.
He went from zero keys to two in about 40 minutes. Total was around 185. A full AKL would have cost more, and the dealer wanted 395 either way. If you have the broken pieces, bring them. The chip inside a cracked Fobik is usually still readable, which makes the job faster and cheaper.
