2006 Dodge Dakota Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy at the Fremont Square Shopping Center in Oxnard. He had a 2006 Dodge Dakota and one remote head key that was falling apart. The plastic shell had cracked along the seam where the key blade meets the fob head, and he'd been holding it together with electrical tape for a month. The lock button had stopped responding entirely.
He said the dealer told him two to three days for a replacement, plus a tow if the key fully died before then. He was parked outside one of the shops at the center and didn't want to push his luck driving on a taped-together key.
I met him there. His truck runs the SKIM system with the 4D transponder chip, FCC ID KOBDT04A. I cut a new Y164-PT blade on site, then programmed the transponder and remote through OBD using my IM608. The SKIM accepted the new key on the first pass, and all four buttons responded: lock, unlock, panic, and trunk. I tested the ignition cycle three times cold to make sure the immobilizer handshake was solid.
He sat in his truck turning it on and off a couple of extra times. Then he peeled the electrical tape off the old key and just looked at it.
Whole thing took about 20 minutes. He kept the old key as a backup blade, which honestly is a smart move.

Customers who skipped the dealer markup
“My car keys were stolen on a cold evening and Nick drove all the way out to Santa Barbara. He got into my car, made a new key, and charged $100 less than another company. Friendly, skilled, trustworthy, and genuinely caring. Nick is a hero.”
“Tim is a hero. He programmed a master proximity key for a newer Volkswagen that multiple locksmiths refused to touch. He spent hours until late at night making sure every function worked perfectly. The skill level here is incredible.”
“Very professional and extremely affordable. The price was literally about three times cheaper than what my dealership quoted me. Fast service and no stress at all. Highly recommend.”
