2004 Dodge Dakota Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy near Rose Shopping Center in Oxnard. His 2004 Dakota would crank but not fire. Turned the key, starter spun fine, engine just would not catch. He had already tried it about twenty times by the time he called me.

I asked him about the Security light on the dash. He said it was on solid. That told me most of what I needed before I even left the house.

When I got there, I checked his key first. The Y160-PT blade was worn but intact. I put my frequency tester on the key head and got nothing back from the transponder. Dead chip. The PCF7936 inside the plastic housing had just given up. No signal meant the SKIM module on the column was never going to let the PCM release fuel injector pulse.

I cut a new Y157 blade by decoding his door lock with the Lishi, cloned the transponder data onto a fresh PCF7936 chip, and seated it in a new Y160-PT key head. Turned the ignition. Security light flickered and went off. Engine fired on the first crank.

He had been sitting in that parking lot for about two hours before he called me. Thought it was a fuel pump. Thought it was the starter relay. It was a little glass capsule inside his key that stopped talking. The whole job took maybe 25 minutes on site.
