Over near The Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks, an Amazon delivery driver flagged me down through text. His 2010 Dodge Dakota was parked in the lot with a full load of packages and zero working keys.
The story was the usual one. Bought the truck used with a single KOBDT04A remote head key. Always meant to get a spare. Never did. The plastic housing had been cracking for months, and today the blade snapped clean off when he tried to twist it in the ignition. One half of the key was in his hand, the other half was jammed in the cylinder.
I pulled the blade fragment out of the ignition first. Then I cracked open what was left of the old housing. The PCF7941 transponder chip was still intact inside the broken shell, so I read it with my VVDI2 and cloned the data onto two new chips. No need to go through the Sentry Key all-keys-lost procedure, which would have meant talking to the WIN module from scratch.
Cut two fresh blades by decoding the driver door cylinder, pressed the cloned chips into new KOBDT04A shells, and synced the remote functions. Both keys started the truck clean on the first turn. He tested the lock, unlock, panic, and cargo buttons standing right there in the lot.
About 40 minutes, start to finish. He had two keys where he had zero. For a lot less than the dealer route, which would have started with a tow.
