Over near Lemon Grove Plaza in Oxnard, a diesel mechanic flagged me down from a muffler shop on his lunch break. His 2003 Dakota wouldn't start. The PCF7936 chip was fine, but the stored key data in the SKIM had corrupted. Happens on these second-gen Dakotas. I ran a full security access sequence, cleared the old key registration, and reprogrammed his transponder back into the module. From plug-in to engine start, about 25 minutes. Most of that was the timed security access countdown the system forces you to sit through.
He drove back to the shop after lunch. The irony of a mechanic calling a locksmith isn't new to me. But immobilizer programming is a specialty tool game. Most shop techs don't carry the equipment, and most don't need to. That's what I'm here for.
