Your 2004 Ford Ranger uses a remote head key with 3 buttons on the face, a CR2032 battery inside powering the remote, and a high-security HU101 blade that slides into the ignition or sits inside the fob as an emergency backup. There's also a transponder chip in the head that communicates with the car's immobilizer every time you start it.

A customer in Thousand Oaks had a Ranger with a cracked key shell. The blade pivot had split and the key was about to fall apart.
