1998 Ford Ranger Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from someone out at Lake Casitas Recreation Area in Ventura. Their 1998 Ranger was sitting in the lot near the water, and the only key they had just stopped turning the ignition. The blade was worn down enough that it was binding in the lock cylinder, and on top of that the remote had been dead for a while, so they'd been manually locking and unlocking for months.

I drove out and set up behind the truck. Decoded the locks off the driver's door, cut a fresh blade on the H75 profile using my machine in the van. The old key was so rounded off on the cuts it was a wonder it had worked at all the week before.

Then the PATS side. The theft indicator on the dash had been flashing steady, which means the system was in its normal armed state, not faulted. I used my programmer through the OBD-II port under the dash to read the existing PATS module and register a new 4C transponder chip to the system. Took about ten minutes once I had the blade cut.

Tested the remote last. Popped a fresh CR2032 in the CWTWB1U331 fob, confirmed lock, unlock, and panic all responded. He stood there clicking the lock button over and over like he forgot the remote ever worked.

The whole job ran about 25 minutes. He'd already called a dealer in Thousand Oaks and been quoted a next-day appointment plus a tow out of the recreation area. Instead he drove home that evening.
