Got a call from a woman at the Rose Shopping Center in Oxnard. She had a 2012 Ford Ranger, single cab, and her only key had snapped at the bow while she was turning the ignition. Half the blade was still jammed in the cylinder.
She had already called the Ford dealer. They told her to tow it in, that PATS key programming was something they had to do on-site at the service bay. Then they quoted her a wait time that stretched into next week. She was on her lunch break with groceries in the bed of the truck.
I got there in about 25 minutes. First thing was extracting the broken blade tip from the ignition cylinder. It came out clean, no damage to the wafers. I decoded the existing cuts right off the broken pieces, then cut a fresh H92 blank on my mobile machine and loaded a new 4D63 80-bit chip using my VVDI Key Tool Plus.
PATS on these Rangers has a timed security window during programming. About ten minutes of just standing there while the system cycles. She spent that time eating a sandwich on the tailgate.
Once the timer cleared, key went in, theft light went off, engine fired. I cycled it three more times to make sure the immobilizer handshake was solid every time.
She drove home with her groceries still cold. The whole thing took maybe 35 minutes, including the wait the truck makes you sit through.
