2006 Ford Ranger Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a woman at the lot near Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. Her 2006 Ranger had one working key left, and the remote buttons on it had stopped responding weeks ago. She had been manually locking and unlocking with the blade every day, figuring the whole key was going bad.

She called the Ford dealer. They told her the key had to be ordered, she would need to bring the truck in, and the whole thing would take a few days between the blank arriving and getting a programming appointment. She works full time and the truck is her only vehicle. That math did not add up.

I pulled up and checked the existing key first. Popped the shell open on her tailgate. The CR2032 was completely dead, corroded a little around one contact. Cleaned it, dropped in a fresh battery, and the lock, unlock, and panic buttons came right back. That key was fine all along.

Then I cut and programmed a new OUCD6000022 remote head key as her spare. Plugged into the OBD-II port under the dash, ran the PATS procedure through my IM608 to register the new 4D-63 80-bit transponder, synced the remote, and tested all three buttons plus cold start. About 25 minutes total.

She watched the whole thing from a bench with her coffee. Kept the truck the entire time and paid a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
