2001 Ford Ranger Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy near Westlake Plaza in Thousand Oaks had been dealing with his 2001 Ranger for about three weeks. Key would go in, he would turn it, and nothing. Dash theft light blinking fast. He would pull the key out, try again, sometimes five or six times before the truck would finally crank. Some mornings it just would not start at all.

The dealer told him new ignition cylinder, new PATS key, reprogramming. A chunk of money and he would need to tow the truck in because it was not cooperating that day.

His buddy told him to call a locksmith first.

I drove out and checked the ignition. The H75 cylinder had worn wafers, which is normal on a Ranger with 20-plus years of use. But the real issue was the transponder read. The 4C chip in his original key was reading intermittently because the antenna ring around the ignition barrel had a loose connector at the PATS transceiver module. That is the small unit mounted right on the steering column.

I decoded the existing lock, swapped the worn wafers, cut a fresh H75 key with a new 4C transponder, and reseated the antenna ring connection. Then I paired the transponder through the PATS parameter reset. His OUCD6000022 remote was still working fine, just needed a fresh CR2032.

He sat in the driver seat and turned the key. Smooth rotation, immediate start, theft light did its normal prove-out and went dark. He just sat there for a second like he forgot what a clean start felt like.

Saved him a tow and a good chunk off what the dealer wanted.
