An older gentleman near the Ventura Road shopping corridor called me about his 2019 Ranger. He used a walker, and the idea of getting to a dealer wasn't just an inconvenience, it was a real problem. I pulled the key data through the OBD port using the PATS module on the BCM (body control module, part number KB5T-15604-BJ on these), registered the new ID49 transponder, and cut the HU101 insert on my mobile machine. The PATS security handshake has a built-in timed delay per key, so I used the wait to show him the CR2450 battery compartment and how to pop the backup blade out of the fob housing.
He sat on his porch the whole time. Didn't have to call anyone, arrange a ride, or hand his truck off to a service bay for days.
I set both fobs on his kitchen table, tested lock, unlock, remote start, and the liftgate button, and left before lunch. He just nodded and said his son wouldn't believe it was already done.
