A home health aide in Goleta had a 2011 Honda CR-V with a cracked key shell. The loop at the top had snapped off and the buttons were wearing through the rubber pad. She went to the dealer and they told her the only option was a brand new key, cut and programmed, for around 395. What they didn't mention is that the chip and electronics inside were perfectly fine. Your CR-V uses a remote head key, which is a plastic head with 3 buttons on the face, a CR1616 battery inside powering the remote, and either an edge-cut or high-security laser-cut blade depending on the year. There's also a transponder chip that communicates with the car's immobilizer every time you start it.
I met her at her driveway near Fairview Town Center and brought replacement shells and my HO01 Lishi for her older edge-cut model. Her key's FCC ID was MLBHLIK-1T. I swapped the electronics from her cracked shell into a new one, verified the buttons and range, and cut a fresh blade. The aftermarket shells I use are the same material and button layout as factory. The circuit board and chip inside are what matter, and those are identical.
She paid about 185 for the full job. Her old cracked key was the only one she had, so having it fixed plus a spare made means she's covered going forward.
