2014 Honda CR-V Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A mom in the Pierpont neighborhood in Ventura called me on a Wednesday around 4:30 PM. She was at daycare pickup with her 2014 Honda CR-V, her kid buckled in the back, and a remote head key that had gone through the washing machine that morning. The car would crank but wouldn't turn over. Green key icon blinking on the instrument cluster, which is Honda's way of saying the immobilizer isn't reading the transponder.
She had already called the dealer. Friday was the earliest appointment. Two days without a car, plus arranging a tow to get it there.
I pulled into the daycare lot about 40 minutes after her call. Connected my programmer to the OBD-II port under the dash and pulled up the Honda guided procedure. The 2014 CR-V uses the HITAG3 / 47 chip system, so the tool handles the immobilizer handshake and registers the new key's transponder to the PCM. Cut the HO03-PT blade on site to match her door lock, then programmed the MLBHLIK6-1T remote head key. The whole process ran about 20 minutes once I was connected.
I told her to hang onto the washed key. The shell, buttons, and blade were still fine. If she ever cracks a case or loses a button pad, that old one is a free parts donor.
She pulled out of that lot with a working key, her kid in the back seat, and bedtime still on schedule. The dealer would have seen her two days later for a lot more money.
