2017 Honda CR-V Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked on Meta Street in the Historic District finishing up a different job when the call came in. An ER doctor at the Oxnard hospital parking structure had just ended a 14-hour shift and found his 2017 CR-V smart key unresponsive. Fourth floor of the structure, no backup fob, no way to drive home. He called the dealer first. They told him two days minimum.

I drove into the structure and found his CR-V right where he said it would be, tucked into a corner spot near the stairwell. He was sitting on the hood with his bag, still in scrubs. The fob battery was the first thing I checked. Dead, but replacing it alone wasn't going to fix it at that point because the car had lost confidence in the fob after repeated failed reads.
The fob needed to be reprogrammed to the vehicle. I connected at the OBD port, ran the pairing sequence, and confirmed the car recognized the key. Then I had him walk every function: lock, unlock, the push-button start, each button on the fob. Everything came back clean.
The dealer couldn't have seen him for two days, and even then he would have needed to get the car there somehow. I was in and out of that structure in under 45 minutes. He drove home and slept.
