An ER doctor on Oxnard Boulevard called me from the fourth floor of a hospital parking structure. His shift had just ended, fourteen hours on his feet, and the only smart key for his 2017 CR-V had stopped working sometime during the shift. Push-button start, nothing. He only had one key registered, and the fob's housing was cracked at the seam, so I built him a full replacement.
I used my diagnostic tool on the OBD-II port to register a new KR5V2X with the HITAG 3 protocol, cut a fresh emergency insert blade to match his lock by decoding it on the spot, and tested every button. Proximity unlock on both front handles, lock, panic, remote start, hatch release.
His car never moved. About forty minutes from my bag hitting the ground to him driving home to sleep. A fraction of what the dealer quoted, and that dealer price assumed the car could even get there.
