A college senior near Santa Paula Creek called the dealer first. They told him to tow the car in and quoted him a number that made him go quiet on the phone. All because he dropped his only key on the carport concrete and cracked the transponder housing on the remote head.

I showed him the crack on his old key so he'd recognize the warning sign if it ever happened again. He held the two keys side by side and just nodded, like he couldn't believe he almost towed the car across town for this.
