2004 Honda CR-V Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A home health aide near Fillmore & Western Railway in Fillmore called about her 2004 CR-V. The key shell had cracked clean through the loop at the top, and the rubber button pad was worn so thin you could almost see the circuit board underneath. She had been squeezing it together with a hair tie just to keep it in one piece.
She told me the dealer quoted her a full replacement, cut and programmed. Only option they gave her. What they skipped over is that the OUCG8D-344H-A board inside was working fine. The ID46 chip was fine. The CR1616 battery contacts were fine. The problem was the plastic around all of it.
I met her in the driveway with a replacement shell that matches the OEM button layout and blade channel, plus my HO01 Lishi to cut a fresh edge-cut blade off her worn original. Swapped the circuit board and transponder chip into the new housing, dropped in a fresh CR1616, and reassembled.
Then the real test. Lock, unlock, trunk release from 30 feet. Key in the ignition, immobilizer reads the chip, engine turns right over. No blinking green key light on the dash, which means the immobilizer accepted it clean.
She watched the whole thing from her front step. Took about 20 minutes. Her old cracked key was her only one, so I cut a spare blade and programmed a second remote while I was already there. Two working keys, done on site, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted for just one.
