Port Hueneme Beach Park on a Saturday morning, and this guy's 2025 CR-V wouldn't acknowledge his smart key existed.
He'd already tried the obvious moves: new CR2032, cleaning the contacts, even that trick where you hold the fob against the start button. Nothing. The dash kept flashing "No Key Detected" and he was stuck using the emergency blade to manually unlock everything.
I pulled out my Autel IM608 and ran a full scan. The Body Control Module showed active, which meant the key receiver was working. Good news: not a BCM failure. I checked his KR5TP-4 fob with my frequency tester and it was transmitting fine on 433.92 MHz.
The issue turned out to be corrupted key registration data in the immobilizer. Happens sometimes after a dead car battery or jumpstart. I cleared the stored keys and re-registered his fob through the OBD port. The whole process took about 20 minutes including the system reset timer Honda builds in.
When that "Ready to Drive" message finally appeared, he just sat there for a second, then pressed lock and unlock about ten times to make sure it was really fixed. The dealer had quoted him a new BCM plus programming. He got out of it for a fraction of that.
