A retired postal worker near the Downtown Fillmore area called because he needed a spare key for his 2000 Honda CR-V. He had one working key left and figured the dealer was his only path because of the "computer stuff" inside it.
His CR-V is a first-gen RD1 with Honda's early immobilizer. That system uses a T5 glass transponder in the key head, which is Honda's first-generation chip setup. The PCM (his is a 37820-P3F board) sends a signal through the coil around the ignition cylinder, the chip answers, and if the code matches, fuel injection stays active. If not, the green key indicator on the dash blinks and the engine dies within a couple seconds of cranking.
I cut the key by code using his VIN and the original Honda keyway, which is an HD103 profile on these. Then I ran the transponder registration through my programmer. On these early Honda immobilizers, you can clone the T5 chip directly, which means no pin codes, no dealer handshake, no waiting on Honda's system. The whole job took about 25 minutes on his driveway.
He turned both keys, one after the other, watching the green key light go solid each time. Then he just stood there holding the spare like it was going to disappear.
He thought this was a dealer-only job. It was a driveway job.
