2005 BMW 7 Series
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2005 BMW 7 Series Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman who runs a chiropractic practice out of a small office building in the Cedros Design District in Solana Beach. She had a 2005 BMW 7 Series and her key had stopped triggering the locks remotely.

The car would start when she inserted the fob into the dash receiver, but the remote functions were gone, and she was getting a warning on the cluster. She had already swapped the battery herself, which was the right first move. Didn't help.

She called the dealer before she called me. They told her to have it towed in and that they'd need to order a VIN-matched key before they could even start the process. Days out, minimum. She was between patients and had a full afternoon booked.

I drove to her lot during her lunch break. Ran diagnostics on the immobilizer module and confirmed the fob had lost its enrollment, likely from the battery going fully dead before she swapped it. The module had dropped it from memory. I cut a fresh key blade to the vehicle, built out the replacement fob with a new CR2032 seated correctly, and enrolled it through the OBD port. Then I tested every button, the door locks, the trunk release, and verified the car started cleanly off the new fob.

She was back inside before her next patient walked through the door. The car never left the parking lot. That's the whole story.
