I got a call from a Euro shop in Eden Gardens, Solana Beach. A 2011 BMW 7 Series had been sitting in their bay for two days. The owner needed a key made, so the shop brought in another locksmith first. That locksmith attempted the job, hit an error mid-procedure, and left. The car was completely dead. It took close to two hours, which is longer than a standard key job on one of these. But the module came back online, the car accepted the new key on the first attempt, and I walked the shop through exactly what went wrong so they would recognize the signs if it ever came up again.

The owner's alternative was a flatbed tow, a potential module replacement at the dealer, and an unknown wait time. That was not where his day needed to go. I carry bench tools for BMW module recovery specifically because these situations exist and someone has to be able to handle them.
