A driver on the shoulder of a coastal highway near Eden Gardens had his key snap in the ignition of his 2011 BMW 7 Series. Half the blade was stuck in the cylinder and half was in his hand. Another locksmith told him the ignition would need to be drilled and replaced. On a BMW, that's a $700 repair before you even get a new key. He called me for a second opinion.
I used my HU58 Lishi to extract the broken fragment from the cylinder without scratching the wafer surfaces inside. Once it was out, I decoded the lock from the wafer readings, cut a fresh blade, and programmed the transponder. His CAS3 key, FCC ID , was a 3-button fob. The new blade turned the ignition on the first try.
No drilling and no cylinder replacement. Total was $95. The other locksmith's plan would have run $200 or more. His original BMW lock works with the new key exactly as it did before.
