2005 Buick Lacrosse
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2005 Buick Lacrosse Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Bressi Ranch is one of those newer planned developments off Palomar Airport Road where everything looks organized and intentional. The parking situation outside one of the commercial suites there is tight but workable. That's where I met a property manager who had one key to his 2005 Buick LaCrosse, that key had been on a heavy ring for years, and one morning it just would not start the car.

He had already tried the obvious stuff. Turned it off and back on. Wiggled the key. Nothing. The car cranked fine, which told me right away the battery and starter were not the issue. When an engine cranks but refuses to run on these, the immobilizer is almost always the first thing to look at.

I pulled up next to him in the lot with the equipment already staged. Before cutting anything, I verified the original key's transponder was still reading correctly. It wasn't. The chip had essentially stopped communicating, probably from years of jostling on that heavy ring combined with normal wear. The key blade itself looked fine. The electronics inside were done.

I built him a replacement key from scratch, cut the blade to his vehicle, and programmed the transponder to his car's immobilizer on site in the parking lot. When he turned it the first time and the engine caught and stayed running, he stood there for a second like he was waiting for it to change its mind.

He mentioned he'd called the dealer first. They wanted him towed in, told him it would be a day or two, and gave him a price that made him pause. He found me instead. The job got done in that parking lot in Bressi Ranch while he went and grabbed a coffee.
