2018 Buick Lacrosse Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was heading through the Live Oak Park Area on a Tuesday afternoon when the call came in. A sales rep was stranded in a hotel conference lot just outside Fallbrook. No working key for his 2018 LaCrosse, no ignition cylinder to fall back on. Two other locksmiths had already told him smart key all-keys-lost on a Buick wasn't something they could do in the field.

He wasn't dramatic about it, just tired. He had a meeting the next morning and the car was sitting there completely dark.

With push-to-start, the vehicle's security system has to wirelessly detect a registered fob before anything wakes up. No registered fob means no start, no dash, nothing. It's the kind of job that looks impossible if you don't have the right equipment, and it's exactly the job I do every week on GM platforms.

I pulled into the lot, set up on the hood, and used a dedicated key programmer to back up the immobilizer data before touching anything. Then I ran the all-keys-lost sequence through the OBD port. There's a timed security countdown built into the process. You can't rush it. You wait it out, register the new fob, and then confirm the car sees it.

His car started clean in the same hotel lot where it had been sitting dead. He didn't say much. Just shook his head and checked his phone for the meeting time.

Getting a spare made while you still have a working key is a fraction of the all-keys-lost job. I mention that every time, not as a sales pitch, but because I've seen what the alternative looks like.
