2017 Buick Lacrosse Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from East Valley, Escondido, around 11 at night. A third-shift warehouse worker had his only fob die in the driveway. The LaCrosse just sat there. He'd already replaced the battery himself a few weeks back, and now the car wouldn't detect the key at all. He figured towing was the only move.
He was wrong about that.
I pulled up, ran diagnostics through the OBD port, and confirmed the fob itself had stopped communicating. Not a battery issue this time, the fob was done. All-keys-lost on this generation of LaCrosse means going through the vehicle security system via the diagnostic port to clear the old key memory and register a fresh fob. It has a timed security access sequence built in, so you wait it out. No shortcuts.
About 35 minutes from connecting the tool to handing him two working fobs, tested on every door handle and the start button, right there under his driveway light.
He mentioned the nearest Buick dealer was a long drive and wouldn't have had an opening until the following week. He had to be at work in a few hours. That part mattered more than anything else about the job.
