1997 Buick Regal Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy in La Mesa Village, parked on one of those quiet residential streets just off the main drag. He had a 1997 Buick Regal and his remote had stopped working entirely. He had already swapped the battery himself, new CR2032 from the drugstore, and nothing changed. He was convinced the fob was dead and he needed a full replacement.
He was standing next to the car when I pulled up. The fob looked rough, honestly. The battery cover was cracked at one corner and the contacts inside were corroded from an old leak. Not the new battery he just put in. An older one that had sat in there too long and left residue on the terminals.
I cleaned the contacts, seated a fresh CR2032 properly, and walked him through the onboard relearn sequence the Regal supports. On a remote system this age, there is a door-lock-based add-a-key procedure that does not need any scan tool. You cycle through it, the locks confirm each step, and you are done. His original fob came back to life. All four buttons working.
He had already called the dealer before he called me. They told him to bring it in, said it would be a diagnostic charge plus the cost of a new remote. He came away paying a fraction of what they wanted, and he did not lose the car for a day.
