2014 Buick Regal
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: Can you wipe lost or stolen keys so they can't start the car anymore?

Yes, and it's part of the process any time we do a security reset. All previously stored key data gets cleared from the vehicle's memory. Only the new keys you authorize get written back in. A lost fob, or one that was stolen, won't unlock the doors or communicate with the immobilizer after that. Clean slate.

Q: Does my 2014 Regal remote flip key have a hidden emergency blade?

It does, but it works differently than a traditional hidden blade setup. On the remote flip key, the blade is the visible folding component. When the fob battery dies, you fold the blade out and use it to physically unlock the driver door. The blade is cut to your specific vehicle. If the blade is worn, damaged, or the hinge is broken, I can cut a replacement blade matched to your locks.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2014 Regal. Can I program it myself?

Not on this one. The 2014 Regal does not have a DIY key relearn sequence you can do with ignition turns or button presses. Programming the remote flip key requires professional diagnostic equipment connected to the OBD port to write the new fob into the vehicle's security system. If you already bought the fob, that's fine, some aftermarket units are compatible. But you still need a tech with the right tools to pair it.

Q: My Regal cranks but stalls immediately after I reconnected the battery. Is it the key?

Probably not the key itself. That crank-and-stall pattern after a battery event is a known behavior tied to the vehicle security system losing its learned state. The immobilizer thinks something is wrong and shuts the engine down before it can run. The key may be perfectly good. A security relearn through the diagnostic port is the usual fix. If the relearn clears it and the car runs normally, you're done.

2014 Buick Regal Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

There's a boarding kennel lot just off the main stretch in Downtown Ramona. That's where I met the guy who had already watched me work before I pulled up.

He'd found my YouTube channel while searching GM key programming forums. Somebody posted my video in a thread about 2014 Regal key failures, and he recognized the diagnostic equipment setup. He said watching the actual job gave him more confidence than any written description. By the time his remote flip key started misfiring, my number was already in his phone.

When I got there, he described the symptom well: the fob would unlock the car fine one day, then show a key-not-detected type warning the next. Not totally dead, just unreliable. That pattern almost always points to two things on this key, the CR2032 battery or the folding blade hinge.

I pulled the fob apart on the hood of my van. Battery tested fine. Then I folded the blade a few times and felt it: the hinge had just enough play that the blade wasn't seating consistently in the cylinder. The transponder was reading intermittently as a result.

Replaced the key, programmed the new fob using my diagnostic equipment, tested every one of the five buttons, ran the remote start three times, and checked range from the far end of the kennel gate. Everything solid.

He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a number that made him hesitate long enough to look for another option. That hesitation brought him to the forum, which brought him to the channel, which brought me to the kennel lot on a Tuesday morning. I'll take that route every time.

Buick Regal Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to handle all-keys-lost on my 2014 Buick Regal?▼

Call a mobile locksmith before you call the dealer or arrange a tow. All-keys-lost on the Regal means the vehicle security system needs a full reset through the diagnostic port, and then new keys get registered as the only authorized ones. We come to your location, handle the reset, program the replacement fob, and cut the blade on site. The price you hear on the phone is the price you pay.
