1997 Cadillac Seville Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in La Mesa Village called about his 1997 Seville sitting in his driveway. The key had gotten to the point where it would only turn on the third or fourth try, and then one morning it just stopped turning at all.
He had tried the usual things. Wiggled the steering wheel. Tried the spare. The spare was a copy of the original, made years back at a hardware store, and it had the same problem.
That told me something right away. When both keys fail the same way, you're not looking at a bad key. You're looking at a worn cylinder that's finally done tolerating imprecise cuts.
I came out to his place off La Mesa Boulevard, decoded the lock directly, and cut a replacement key to the factory specification from that reading rather than from either of the worn keys. The difference was immediate. Turned like it was new.
He asked about going to the dealer. I told him the dealer story on a car this age usually involves waiting, ordering, and paying for the privilege of both. He saved a good chunk, and I was done in the time it would have taken him to drive there.
