Carlton Hills in Santee is one of those neighborhoods where the driveways are steep and the streets fold back on themselves. I got a call from a guy who had parked his 2001 Seville at the bottom of his driveway and was not going anywhere.

He had one key left. He had worn it down over the years and one morning it just stopped being read by the car. The engine would catch for a split second and die. He thought it was a fuel issue at first, checked a few things, then noticed it was doing it too consistently to be mechanical. Same symptom every time, almost like a timer.

When I was done he mentioned the dealer had quoted him a wait and a tow. I did not dwell on it. He had his keys, the car started clean both times I tested it, and I was back on the road before lunch.
