2005 Cadillac STS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was out in Bancroft, Spring Valley, on a Tuesday afternoon. A woman had called about a spare key for her 2005 Cadillac STS. Said she'd checked my BSIS license number before dialing, which I respect. Her last locksmith left her with a handwritten receipt, no license number, and a disconnected phone number a week later. She wasn't doing that again.
She met me at the curb. The STS was sitting there looking clean, silver, well kept. She had one working fob and wanted a backup before anything happened to it.
On this generation of STS, adding a key isn't something you do with a button sequence in the driver's seat. The immobilizer on this car requires diagnostic equipment to register a new remote. I connected through the OBD port, pulled up the security system, and enrolled the new fob the right way through legitimate data channels. No shortcuts, no residual fault codes sitting in the body control module afterward.
I also cut the blade to her vehicle so the physical key works the door and the ignition independently of the remote electronics. That matters. If the fob ever acts up, she's not locked out.
The whole job was done at the curb. She had a programmed, tested spare in her hand before I was done packing up the tools. She'd gotten a dealer quote earlier in the week. What she paid me was a fraction of that, and she got a real receipt with a real license number and a company van with the name on it parked right behind her car.
