2010 Cadillac STS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy parked near Fletcher Cove, right by the beach access at the end of 105th Street. He was visiting from out of town, had his 2010 Cadillac STS sitting in the lot, and the key blade was visibly worn.
He could feel it binding in the ignition, catching and stuttering on the way in. He'd been babying it for weeks and finally decided this was not the day to push it.
He'd already called another locksmith who quoted him for a full ignition cylinder replacement without even looking at the car.
I pulled out my decoding tool and read the lock from the door cylinder, where the wafers were still clean and hadn't been ground down by a worn blade. That gave me the exact cut profile I needed. I cut a fresh blade to match, transferred the transponder components, and programmed the new key through the OBD port using my GM-capable diagnostic equipment. The immobilizer accepted it on the first attempt. Five buttons, all working. Door handles responding. Ignition cycling smooth.
The original cylinder was fine. The wafers were tired but not failed. All it needed was a properly cut blade and a correctly paired fob.
He saved a good chunk over what the other guy was planning to do to his car. And he drove away from Fletcher Cove with a key that actually fit.
