2006 Cadillac STS
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2006 Cadillac STS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Shadowridge, I met a guy in a parking lot who'd already been through it once.

He'd called one of those low-bid locksmiths from a search ad, the kind with no address and a price that sounds great until it doesn't. That guy spent a while on the car, collected his money, and left the owner with a fob that would lock the doors but couldn't reliably communicate with the vehicle security system when starting. Intermittent. Sometimes it worked, sometimes the car just sat there.

By the time he called me, he was done trusting people on the phone. First thing he asked was how he could verify I was actually licensed. Completely fair. I gave him my BSIS license number right there and told him to pull it up on the state site while we talked. He did. Took about thirty seconds. That was enough.

When I got to the car, I ran a full system check through the diagnostic port before I touched the fob programming. The previous job had left the fob partially registered, which is a specific kind of mess because the system thinks it knows the key but doesn't fully trust it. I cleared the pairing, walked through the correct security access sequence for this platform, and re-registered the fob from scratch. All five buttons. Clean start every time.

He asked what the dealer had quoted him. I told him what I charged. He just nodded. That's usually how that conversation ends.
