2009 Cadillac STS
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2009 Cadillac STS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

He was at a steakhouse on Third Avenue Village celebrating his anniversary when he realized his jacket was gone from the coat check. Keys, wallet, phone, all of it.

He borrowed the host's phone to call the police. His wife called me from hers.

The 2009 Cadillac STS was sitting in the lot and they had nothing. When his wife mentioned the dealer, they told her the car would need to be towed in, they couldn't look at it for three to five business days, and they recommended wiping and reprogramming the entire key system since the stolen fob could still access the car. She said the estimate made her go quiet.

I was there within the hour.

All-keys-lost after a theft is a different job than adding a spare to a working system. The priority is making sure that stolen fob is dead to the car. I connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port, accessed the vehicle security system, cleared every registered key out of memory, and then enrolled two new fobs from scratch. The old fob, wherever it is now, will not unlock the doors or start the engine. I also decoded the lock and cut the emergency blade inserts for both fobs so they had a mechanical backup.

Both keys were working before the restaurant called last rounds. He drove home that night.

The dealer's estimate plus a tow was going to cost them a significant chunk of money and nearly a week of being without the car. I had them sorted same night, on site, for way less. The stolen fob is dead. That part mattered to them more than anything.
