2017 Cadillac XT5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in East Valley, a retired couple had been sitting on a single key for their 2017 Cadillac XT5 for months. Not because they forgot. Because getting to the Cadillac dealer meant a highway run they just did not want to make. They had one fob, no spare, and every time one of them mentioned it, the other one said "we'll deal with it later."
They called me on a Tuesday morning. I was already working in Escondido, so the timing worked out.
When I pulled up, they were both outside. One of them walked me to the car and handed me the original fob like it was something fragile. I checked the battery first out of habit. It was still good, so I moved on.
The XT5 smart key system needs proper diagnostic equipment to register a new fob to the vehicle's immobilizer. I connected at the OBD port, ran through the add-a-key sequence, and enrolled the new fob. Then I cut a replacement key blade to match the vehicle, seated it in the new fob, and ran through every function: door lock, unlock, the liftgate button, and remote start. Checked that the push-button start recognized both fobs. Walked them through swapping the CR2032 when it eventually needs it, which is about every three to four years with normal use.
The whole thing happened in their driveway. They never left the house. They got two working fobs. And what they paid was a fraction of what the dealer quoted for one.
The dealer would have had them driving on the freeway, dropping the car off, and waiting. This was just a Tuesday morning in the driveway.
