2019 Cadillac XT5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was over in Bostonia on a Tuesday when the call came in from a parking lot near a dermatology office in El Cajon. The woman had two kids in different schools, one pickup at 2:30 and one at 3:15, and her XT5 was sitting there with a fob that had stopped being recognized by the car that morning.
She had already called the dealer. They said Thursday at the earliest, possibly Friday if the fob needed to be ordered. She did not have a Thursday.
I pulled up while she was still on the phone with someone, got the story in about ninety seconds, and got to work. The fob the car was already paired to had a battery that tested low but not dead, which is the kind of reading that sends people in circles. Swapped the CR2032, cleaned the contacts, retested. Still intermittent. That told me the fob itself had an issue, not just the battery.
So we went the full route: new fob, cut the emergency insert blade to her vehicle, ran the registration sequence through the diagnostic port, and verified every button and the door handle passive detection before I called it done. From first connection to her driving away was right around 35 minutes.
She made both pickups with time to spare. The dealer comparison came up when she was already back in the driver seat. I didn't bring it up.
