I got a call from a woman off Mission Avenue near the San Luis Rey area of Oceanside. Her 2011 Ford Flex had a remote head key that was barely holding together. The shell had cracked at the pivot point where the blade folds out, and she was nursing it along by cupping the whole thing in her palm every time she turned the ignition, afraid the blade would just snap loose mid-turn.

She watched the whole thing from her doorstep. When I handed it back she pressed the lock button a few times, just to feel it click solid in a shell that wasn't flexing.
