When a 2017 Ford Flex key is done wrong, it doesn't just "kind of work." It fails. The engine might crank but not start. The remote might lock but not unlock. Or the key programs initially but the immobilizer rejects it after a drive cycle and you're stranded again.
A customer at the laundromat in San Diego had a key made by another locksmith for her Flex that stopped working after about eight days. I used my VVDI2 to read what chip was actually in her bad key, confirmed it was incorrect, and programmed a new key with the right chip matched to her car's FCC ID M3N-5WY8609. Her fob also had a weak CR2032 battery contributing to the intermittent issues, so I swapped that too.
The replacement I made has been working for months and cost her $266. Dealer would have charged $455. The difference between a key that works and a key that works for a week is the chip inside it.
