It was a July afternoon and she was standing in a parking lot near the water in Moonlight Beach, Encinitas, staring at her 2013 Ford Transit Connect through the window. Groceries in the back seat. Frozen stuff. She said the ice cream had maybe thirty minutes.

The bigger issue was a bent battery contact that was barely making connection -- probably from a previous battery swap where someone got impatient with the case.
Straightened the contact, seated a fresh CR2032, reprogrammed the fob through the OBD port to make sure it was talking to the vehicle correctly, and walked every button. Lock, unlock, the third button, then the key itself in the ignition. Everything came back.
She was back on the road in under an hour. The frozen stuff made it. The dealer quote, which she mentioned was going to cost her a good chunk more, never happened.
