I was already working in Escondido on a Friday night when the call came in from a couple out near San Pasqual Valley.
They had gone out for the evening and came back to a Transit Connect that would not cooperate. The fob had gone completely dark, no response on any button. I popped the key head open on the hood of my van, swapped in a fresh CR2032, seated it correctly, and closed it back up. Then I ran the relearn procedure to bring the remote functions back in sync with the vehicle.
Lock, unlock, all four buttons checked. The fob had full range again on the first test. The car started without a second thought.
They had been standing there mentally rearranging their whole Saturday morning. When it locked and unlocked cleanly on the first try, the relief on their faces was pretty visible.
